First visit to the BIA (Bangalore International Airport)

Last Friday, I had to catch a flight to Delhi and got the chance to see the new airport at Bangalore. I had heard a lot of good and not so good things about the Airport on various forums and was excited that I would be able to get a first hand experience of being there.
I started at 4:45 AM in the morning to take my 6:10 flight. I decided to take the BMTC shuttle to the Airport and checked the timings the previous evening. Having reached the bus stand at 4:55 am, I had to wait just seven minutes and there was the A/C Volvo bus Vayu Vajra coming my way. The journey to Airport was very comfortable and 100 rupees for the 20 odd kms did seem reasonable and it took around 20 minutes.
The airport looked nice and clean and the many check in counters made check in quite simple and hassle free. The waiting area was quite good as well with lot of options for a nice breakfast, not cheap though.
On my return journey I took the non A/C bus to come back home at just half the price of the A/C bus. Over all a good experience at the BIA.

Rain and traffic.

I was about to leave for home and just as I got up to leave a colleague tells me that its raining quite heavily. So why not blog for a while the clouds empty their buckets.
The already unruly traffic of bangalore gets worse in rains and today would be no different. Had I got my car today I would have been able to leave now and it would have been a good time infact to leave. Since most pedestrians and two-wheelers would be off the road due to the rain. But I dont believe in taking up the road space of 3-4 people with my car so I usually avoid getting my car unless it is really needed.
So, I will have to hang around for some more time and hope that the rain stops before I can leave for home. Maybe a cup of chai would be the ideal for this scenario :-)

Road to the new Bangalore International Airport.

Lot of work is going on in Bangalore to make the ride to the new international airport a smooth one. But most of the efforts are too little too late in my view and not very well thought out.
Majority of the work on the main approach road to the airport (Bellary road) is centred around making the road signal free (no stops at traffic junctions). But what the authorities have not anticipated is that when so much of traffic will start flowing non-stop there will be somewhere that the traffic will build up.
In my opinion the Kodigehalli Gate signal will become the choking point (infact it already has long pile ups).
As all other signals before it have become signal free the traffic inflow rate has increased significantly and this particular junction is bearing the brunt of traffic pile up.
The lesson for the authorities is to assess the impact of changes at such junctions and then make plans.

Environment Awareness

There has been a lot of talk recently on global warming and making people aware of the perils of modern living and how our way of life is spoiling the environment. I tried looking around for some good blogs which have information on eco awareness and promote eco-friendliness. Will list them out below :

Clean N Green : A group of people in Bangalore who go around and clean picnic spots and recycle the plastic. A commendable job indeed !!

Clean & Green
: Looks a relatively new blog. And the first posting is quite interesting, outlining a few tips that we can follow in our daily lives and help save our planet.

Nigel Eco Store
: A good place t o buy some eco friendly stuff. Is quite useful in case you use any of the stuff sold here.

Solarkat's Eco blog : Another place with lot of good eco friendly tips.

However hard I may try, I would not be able to explain how good a movie Taare Zameen Par by Aamir Khan is. So all I can say is that It is a MUST WATCH !!

Back to Sun.
7th Aug 2007 was my last day of work at Sun and although I had thought that I would like to come back to Sun someday, I had never ever thought that I would be back in Sun in less than two months time.
I joined CFS on 8th Aug 2007 and started working full time from home, since there was no office in Bangalore. And in less than one month from then on we came to know that CFS would be acquired by Sun. My first reaction to the news was really strange, I was not sure if I should be happy or sad, infact same was the thought of a couple of other colleagues of mine aswell. But now that the acquisition has been completed if feels great to be back to the place I had been working for the past 3 years.
Feels good to be back to Sun.
