Ever since I decided that I would be working from home full time. I had been scrambling around to find a good/reliable/fast internet connection for my home. And settled to using a Tataindicom provided USB based cdma connection, till the time either Airtel or BSNL would provide me a connection. But the delay was making me nervous and then I started enquiring about Reliance wimax which I had heard about from a few friends. Interestingly I didnt come across any ads, so I started searching the blogosphere. And there I found all the info. I even read that the customer service was not good although the speed was good. So, for me it was the only option left with Airtel/BSNL both not showing any interest towards providing me a connection.
I applied and was told it would take 4-5 weeks for the installation to be done, which was too much as I had read on blogs that people had got connections in a week. Anyways I didnt have much choice. But I called up the call centre 2-3 times to make them feel my urgency for the connection and it paid off. I got the connection within two weeks. Now about the connectivity and service:
1) The installation is outsourced, so it is not very professional. But they do an ok job if you push them. Basically, a wimax received/antenna is installed on the roof and from that an ethernet cable comes down to your room. Where it goes into a PoE and the output from that to your the ethernet port of your laptop/desktop/router. Thats it. The PoE also needs power.
2) The speed is very good. I am very satisfied with the over all speed and impressed with the download speeds. Which is somewhere in between 100-200 kBps for me. (I have a 2mbps connection, with 4gB download limit)
3) The customer service, well I havent had any issues so far so not very informed to make a comment.
Over all a good connection within a very good price. I would say go for it.
